About L Professional Writing and Joanna
BiographyIt started with a love of writing.
As soon as my pencil hit paper in elementary school I simply couldn’t stop. I loved creating my own stories and newspapers, writing in my own journal. I was driven by the fact that I was creating and capturing my own, new ideas. With any love, my writing grew and developed into much more than I imagined. I studied technical journalism at Colorado State University where my skills were honed. I became a very factual, concise writer. I followed the AP Style Guidebook like it was my Bible.
I graduated. I joined the Peace Corps. My life and worldview were radically changed by this amazing experience and so was my writing. As I spent two years in Burkina Faso, I filled three journals. I wrote long emails and letters to friends and family back home.
Perhaps most importantly, I discovered grant writing. With grants, I realized I could unlock a world of potential for my village and community. The passion that inspired me to write as a child was reignited.
As I landed in the nonprofit sector post Peace Corps, I wrote all fundraising copy for my organization including direct mails, event programs, thank you letters, reports, case statements in addition to my regular grant writing responsibilities.
Writing continues to be my love, all these years later. I am passionate about serving people and changing the world. (That Peace Corps naivety never dies.)
My hope is that my writing can unlock new ideas or potential for you or your organization.
